Recycle4schools - how to help your school win

All primary schools in the borough of Rochdale are eligible to take part in the Recycle4schools programme.

If you have a child in year 5, contact your child's teacher directly to find out if they're taking part. They could even be in with a chance to win cash prizes up to £500 for their school.

If your school is taking part in Recycle4schools

Year 5 pupils who attend participating schools in Rochdale borough will be given a one-hour lesson in school on recycling by one of our recycling officers.

Following on from that, we're asking you as parents and guardians to take the quick online quiz with your child to build on what they've learnt.

With your help, we can teach our children good recycling habits and help to build a cleaner world - and your child can even earn a prize along the way too.

Step 1

Gather your family and take our interactive Recycle4schools quiz. You'll be directed to register your child's name and school so the school can keep track of who has completed the quiz.

If you need a quick reminder on recycling right, you can refresh your memory with our handy reference guide on what to put in each of your bins.

Step 2

Following their lesson at school, your child will have been given a recycling challenge invitation slip, shown below. Once you've completed the quiz, simply sign the reverse of the slip and make sure your child hands it back to their teacher.

Step 3

When the teacher has received your signed slip and confirmed you've taken the quiz, they'll be able to hand your child their trendy recycle wristband which they can show off to their friends.

How to win prizes for your school

  1. Simply take the online quiz with your child, if you've not already done so, and then sign and return the printed recycling challenge invitation slip.
  2. If 80% of your school's year 5 pupils have completed the online quiz by Sunday, 30 June 2019, your school will automatically be entered into a prize draw.

The winning school will receive £500 in cash to spend on whatever they like. First and second runner ups will also receive £300 and £200 respectively.

The draw will take place on Monday, 1 July 2019 and we will inform winning schools within 7 working days.

Why is Recycle4schools aimed at year 5 pupils?

We've chosen year 5 pupils as our key target audience for the recycling classes after careful consideration and discussions with a number of local primary school head teachers.

It's our collective belief that children of this age are both enthusiastic and have a level of comprehension to learn the important lessons about recycling and to put what they've learnt into practice at home.
