Hollingworth Lake

Hollingworth Lake was built in 1804 to supply water to the Rochdale canal. There's lots to do for you and the family including water activities, walks along footpaths, trails exploring the surrounding countryside, bird watching and fishing.

Events and activities at the Lake as well as leisure centres are organised and managed by our partners Link4Life.

A regular programme of guided walks, cycle trips and outdoor activities are organised throughout the year. There are a range of water activities and lake events for all abilities including sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

All events meet at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre unless stated otherwise. Contact Link4Life, Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre direct if you require further information on any event.

Water activities: All of our sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and rowing equipment is available for hire to suitably qualified or experienced individuals or groups. For details of the qualifications or experience required please contact the centre on 01706 370499.

Rowing boats are available for hire on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from April-September and on weekday afternoons throughout the school summer holidays. Please contact us regarding rowing boat availability.

Bird watching and fishing at Hollingworth Lake: You can see a variety of water fowl on the lake. A small hide at the South West corner overlooks a natural area where boats and watersports are excluded.

The lake is stocked with coarse fish, including bream, carp, tench, roach and perch. There's no close season but there are restrictions on where you can fish. Permits are sold from the Visitor Centre.
