Requesting an additional bin
If you're requesting an additional bin, a recycling officer will arrange to visit your home to review the type and amount of waste you’re producing and make sure you're recycling properly.
If we confirm you have a genuine need for an additional bin, we’ll provide one free of charge.
Replacing damaged bins
If your bin is damaged, we'll take this away when we deliver your new one.
Charges for replacement and additional bins
You’ll only be charged if your property has already received the same type of bin in the last 5 years.
The charges for replacement and additional bins are:
- £30 - replacement or additional general waste bin
- £30 - replacement or additional recycling bin
- Free - replacement kitchen caddies and street caddies
When you don't need to pay for a new bin
You don't need to pay for a new bin if:
- You want to exchange a small recycling bin for a larger one.
- You've moved into a new build property - in this case, the developer is responsible for providing the bins. If you've moved into a property which isn't a new build, you or your landlord will need to pay for any missing bins.
Why we charge for a replacement bins
We charge for some replacement bins to help cover the cost of supplying them. We receive thousands of reports of lost or damaged bins each year, and providing new bins costs us around £265,000 annually. Charging for bins helps protect other council services and could save us about £17,000 a year.
