Planning Performance Agreements

A Planning Performance Agreement (PPA) is a voluntary project plan between you and our planning team. It sets out how your planning application will be managed, including key steps, responsibilities and an agreed timetable.

Why use a PPA

When you enter into a PPA with us, you benefit from:

  • A clear, agreed timetable - we set out key stages based on the complexity of your proposal, from early discussions through to the final decision and any follow‑up work. This helps you plan your project and reduces delays.
  • Early identification of issues - regular meetings and dedicated officer time help spot design, technical or policy issues early, giving you the chance to resolve them before you apply.
  • Clear expectations - the agreement explains what you need to submit, when consultation will happen, how statutory bodies will be involved and when you can expect a decision. This makes the process more predictable.
  • Better communication - you have consistent, coordinated contact with planning officers and specialist advisors, helping the process run smoothly and avoiding repeated or reactive conversations.
  • Higher‑quality outcomes - early engagement and the chance to review designs and technical details usually lead to stronger proposals that meet policy requirements and community expectations.

Please note: a PPA does not influence whether your application is approved or refused. It simply ensures the process is well‑managed and runs to an agreed timetable.
