Report tree problems
Before reporting a tree to us, check that it is on land we own or manage.
The way you report the problem depends on the type of issue.
Dangerous or fallen trees
A tree may need urgent attention if it:
- Has fallen onto a road or pavement
- Is at immediate risk of falling
- Presents an immediate danger to people or property
- Is causing an obstruction or hazard

Any other time: call the Police non-emergency number on 101 or our council emergency number. Do not use the emergency number for routine tree enquiries.
Trees blocking street lights
If a tree is blocking a street light, you can report a street light problem.
Trees damaging roads or pavements
If tree roots have made a road, pavement, footway or kerb uneven, you can report damage to footways, pavements and kerbs.
Trees and telephone lines
You need to report problems to the utility company responsible for the lines. Most telephone lines are managed by OpenReach.
Tree roots in drains
Tree roots usually enter drains that are already damaged. Drains are normally the responsibility of the homeowner or water company.
Trees containing nesting birds
The law protects wild birds and active nests. If you see something illegal or suspicious you can report bird crime to Greater Manchester Police.
Other tree problems
For non-urgent problems, like if a tree in an area we manage is damaged, dead, diseased or in need of pruning. You can report tree issues online.
