From Sunday, 1 October 2023, if you're undertaking controlled building work and are either the client, contractor or designer, there are new building regulations which you must comply with.

Building control and building regulations mainly deal with how buildings are constructed, a building's structural stability, fire precautions and escape, weather resistance, energy conservation, sound insulation, and facilities for people with disabilities.

When is building regulation approval required?

You may need building regulation approval to check the work you're doing reaches certain safety and energy efficiency standards. Before you apply for building regulation approval, please check if the work you're doing requires approval from us.
