What's the difference between planning permission and building control?

There are key differences between planning permission and building control.

Planning and planning permission mainly deals with the correct use of land, the appearance of buildings, the effect that development will have on the environment and neighbouring properties, listed buildings and conservation areas.

Building control and building regulations mainly deal with how buildings are constructed, a building's structural stability, fire precautions and escape, weather resistance, energy conservation, sound insulation, and facilities for people with disabilities.
