Discretionary student bursary for 16-19 year olds

You may get a discretionary bursary if you need financial help to pay for your school transport costs. We'll assess your individual needs to decide the amount of bursary you receive. You might receive a bursary of up to £1,200 or be given a travel pass instead of money.

Eligibility

We'll look at your individual circumstances to decide if you're eligible for the discretionary bursary.

In your application, we're looking for you to demonstrate how you're struggling and why. For example, your family is in receipt of income support, job seekers allowance, income-related employment and support allowance or have a household income of less than £16,190.

You can not receive the discretionary student bursary and the vulnerable student bursary at the same time.
