Free school meals provide a school meal to disadvantaged pupils who are aged between 5 and 16 years old. We use information to assess applications for free school meals received by the council.

- Age or date of birth.
- Identifiers, for example, National Insurance number, passport number, driving licence number, vehicle registration number.

We're allowed to process personal and sensitive data for the following reasons under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Articles and the Data Protection Act:

We collect information from and disclose information to individuals and organisations that can support our work including:
- Council departments
- Schools and higher education providers
- Department for Education
- Elected members, for example, where they're supporting you with a request
- Automated decision about your personal information
- This service uses programs to make decisions that does not involve a human being when using your personal information. Entitlement is determined electronically by virtual workers maintained by Blue Prism through a secure link to Department for Education (DfE) records.
- How long we keep your personal information
- We keep personal information collected as part of this process for a minimum of 2 years from the date of collection, or for an additional length of time if necessary.
- Transferring personal information beyond the EEA

This service doesn't transfer your information outside the EEA.
