Disabled Facilities Grants

If you have a permanent or substantial disability, you may be entitled to a means-tested Disabled Facilities Grant to help with the cost of adapting your home to meet your essential needs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant, you must:

Be one of the following:

  • An owner occupier
  • A private tenant
  • A landlord with a disabled tenant
  • A local authority tenant
  • A housing association tenant
  • Some occupiers of caravans and houseboats are also eligible

and have a disability that:

  • Is a substantial impairment of your sight, hearing or speech
  • Is a mental disorder or impairment
  • Is a substantial physical disability

You must also have the right to live in the UK, the right to public funds and be able to prove that you live in the property as your only or main residence.

How to apply for a Disabled Facilites Grant

To apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant, our Occupational Therapy Team will need to carry out an assessment.

The assessment is to see how adapting your home could help you with your daily life.

You can use the grant to pay for things like:

Adaptations are carried out by our Home Improvement Agency (HIA). The HIA work alongside occupational therapists, social and care professionals and housing organisations.
