Careline community alarm service

Careline is a community alarm service. A device is installed in your home that lets you call for help in an emergency, at any time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Who is Careline for?

You should consider Careline if you:

  • Have reduced mobility.
  • Have regular falls or have become at risk of falls.
  • Live alone and maybe feel at risk.
  • Want to carry on living independently in your own home.

What Careline services are available?

There are different types of Careline services you can get.

  • Careline: you nominate 2 emergency contacts to be notified of when you've had to call for help. Your 2 emergency contacts should live close enough so that they can respond within a reasonable time frame.  They need to be willing to be contacted at any time of the day or night if you have an emergency. Your emergency contacts should have a key to be able to access your home.
  • Careline Plus: if you don't have anyone suitable to be your emergency contact, we can provide a mobile responder to help you. Careline Plus includes the fitting of a secure key safe outside your home. The key safe will contain a key to access your home for the mobile responder to use in an emergency.
  • Careline GSM: if you don't have a landline telephone, you can get a different type of Careline unit which uses mobile phone signals to work. This is an additional service available with Careline and Careline Plus for a small fee.

How much do Careline services cost?

There are different charges for Careline services.

Please note that we only accept payment by direct debit.  A direct debit form will be sent to you and must be completed before we can install any Careline equipment.

How does Careline work?

You wear a pendant or wrist strap with a built-in alarm button. When you press the alarm button, a signal is sent through your Careline unit, which is linked to the control centre.

You can wear your Careline pendant so it's always with you.

You'll be automatically connected to a trained control centre operator who can talk with you through a loudspeaker built into your Careline unit. You don't need to use your telephone.

The control centre operator will have your name and address already, as that is linked to your Careline unit.

The control centre operator will try to find out what help you need, for example:

  • You may have had a fall and can't get up.
  • You may need help from a family member, friend or carer.
  • You may be feeling unwell.
  • You may need reassurance.

How is Careline installed?

Our Careline Team will make arrangements to install the alarm unit within a few days of you making your request.

There needs to be an electric power socket available near a landline telephone connection, unless you're having a GSM (mobile signal) unit installed.

All alarm units have a backup battery, so if there is a power cut, it will still work for up to 12 hours.

During the installation, we will:

  • Check the alarm unit and pendant are working as they should.
  • Show you how to use the equipment.
  • Answer any questions you have.

Report a fault with Careline

If you need to report a fault with either your Careline alarm unit or your pendant, you can contact the Careline Team.

  • Phone between 8.45am-4.45pm, Monday-Friday: 01706 926671
  • Press your pendant, or the button on the Careline unit and tell the monitoring centre about the fault and they will pass that information on to us.

Cancel the Careline service

If you decide you no longer need Careline, you need to contact us, as soon as possible, using the contact details on this page.
