Change the owner of a licensed vehicle

To change the owner of a licensed Hackney Carriage or Private Hire vehicle:

1. The licence must have at least 3 months left before it expires.
2. Complete the change of ownership form and make your payment online. How much your application will cost.
3. If your application is successful, we'll process your change once we receive the relinquish interest form from the previous vehicle owner.
4. We'll update the details for the vehicle licence and send you the updated documents within 5 working days.

Relinquish interest in a Private Hire or Hackney Carriage vehicle

Make sure you send in your licensing application before arranging your MOT.

Once your application is received, you’ll be told when to book your MOT.

If you get your MOT too early, it might not be valid for licensing and could cause delays or extra costs.

If your application is incomplete or missing any required documents, we will email you to let you know and arrange a refund within 5 working days.
