2026-2027 Council Tax bands

Current Council Tax bands

We set the Council Tax rates and the Valuation Office Agency makes sure your home is in the correct band so you pay the right amount of Council Tax.

The Valuation Office Agency decides your correct band based on the value of your property at 1 April 1991, not what a property is worth today.

The 8 Council Tax bands and the charge for each band are displayed below.

Discount on Council Tax bills 2026-2027

Council Tax will increase by 4.99 per cent for 2026–2027, but a 2 per cent discount will be applied to all bills except those for empty properties. This will be funded through the use of council reserves.

We’ll apply the full discount to the first bills issued in March 2026, so you don’t need to claim it.

Councillors agreed to apply the discount to help residents cope with the cost of living. It will also protect future funding, as the government’s next local government settlement will assume that councils have increased Council Tax by the full 4.99 per cent.
