Get involved with your community as a care leaver

We want you to be an active member of society and to have all the chances in life that other young adults have.

Helping care leavers be active members of society

Being an active member of society means being part of your community, having your say and creating relationships.

We can help you by:

  • Encouraging and helping you to enrol on the electoral register so you can vote.
  • Providing information on groups and clubs you may wish to join.
  • Making sure you're represented on the interview panel when recruiting new members of staff to the Step Ahead service.
  • Letting you know about relevant awards, schemes and competitions you can enter in line with your talents.
  • Giving you advice to help you challenge any discrimination you may face.
  • Making sure that your views about how we support you are included in our service development.
  • Celebrating your achievements at ‘Our Big Day’ and ‘Our Big Night' events.
