To lead healthier lives, children aged 5–18 should do at least 1 hour of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity every day.
Research shows physical activity has lots of benefits including:
- Better health, balance, strength and mobility
- Boosts mental wellbeing and energy
- Stronger bones and muscles
- Improved sleep
- A sense of achievement
- More independence in later life
Ideas to get children moving
Physical activity doesn’t have to be a chore you can make it fun for all the family.
Here are some of the many ways children can get active in the Rochdale borough:
- Sport and fitness activities – Your Trust has lots of activities for children and young people
- Parks and countryside - find parks and gardens and playgrounds around the Rochdale borough
- Cycle lanes and routes - find cycle lane maps around the Rochdale borough and Greater Manchester
- Youth Clubs and activities – find out what's going on at your local youth centre
- Volunteering - there are lots of ways you can get involved and more active
- Change4Life – has lots of fun activities like ‘The 10 Minute Shake Up’ that you and your children can do to get active at home or in your local area.
- The Daily Mile – just 15 minutes, with children averaging a mile each day
- School Games Mark – inspiring young people to take part in competitive school sport
- PE and sport premium for primary schools – to improve the provision of PE and sport
