Siobhan's journey shows how storytelling, passion, and collaboration can bring a historic landmark to life and make it a place where everyone feels they belong.

Can you tell us about your role at Rochdale Town Hall?

“My role is all about connecting communities, from local residents and visitors to businesses and event organisers. Rochdale Town Hall isn’t just a building; it’s a place where everyone should feel welcome.”

“Every day, I help shape how people experience one of Rochdale’s most iconic spaces. We want the Town Hall to feel alive. It’s not just about heritage, it’s about creating memorable experiences that bring people together.”

“My work can include anything from updating social media channels and designing event guides to creating family activity packs and supporting community campaigns. No 2 days are the same. One moment I’m meeting with a couple planning their dream wedding; the next, I’m helping a local school group explore the building’s history. It’s about making sure every visitor leaves feeling inspired and included.”

What led you to this career?

“I actually started out as a journalist. That’s where I discovered my love for writing, culture, and the power of communication.”

“After a decade in marketing and earning my Chartered Institute of Marketing Level 6 qualification, I found the perfect opportunity to combine my skills with my passion for community and culture.”

“Working here lets me bring my creativity to life every day. The Town Hall has this energy that encourages ideas and connection. It’s such a special place to be.”

What’s been one of your proudest moments at work?

“That’s a tough one because every event has its own magic”

“From wedding fairs to cultural festivals and community open days, each one brings people together in a different way.”

“I’m especially proud of how the team works collaboratively to make the Town Hall welcoming for everyone. It’s not just the architecture that makes it special, it’s the people. From our staff and volunteers to the local families who visit, everyone contributes to that atmosphere.”

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing how our work connects people, helping them feel part of something bigger.”

How does creativity play a part in your role?

“Creativity is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s developing engaging content, planning a new event, or finding ways to reach new audiences, it’s all about keeping the Town Hall vibrant and relevant.”

“I love that my role lets me experiment with ideas and storytelling. There’s so much potential here to celebrate Rochdale’s heritage in new, exciting ways that appeal to different generations.”

What advice would you give to someone thinking about a career in cultural engagement?

“My advice is simple: keep your passion alive. Stay curious, be open to learning, and surround yourself with creativity. If you care about connecting communities, celebrating heritage, and creating memorable experiences, this is a career that will inspire you every single day.”

What does ‘Succeed at Rochdale’ mean to you?
