History of the festival
The festival first began in 1962 when it was known as The Rochdale Youth Festival of Music and Speech. A few years later, drama was added to the title and in later years this was further changed to its present name, the Rochdale Music Service Festival of Performing Arts.
The Festival celebrated its 60th birthday in 2022. During the times of coronavirus (COVID-19), the festival continued running but online only, with no face-to-face events. We started to get back to normality with face-to-face events in 2022.
Although the name of the festival has been kept up to date the overall aims and format of the festival have remained the same.
