Current Local Plan
The Local Plan isn't one document. The policies and plans below make up the current Local Plan. Some of these are still in the process of being adopted.
When a plan is adopted, it doesn't mean the land outlined on the plan will definitely be built on.
In most cases, developers will still need to apply for planning permission and have their applications considered on an individual basis.
Adopted plans
- Places for Everyone plan - a long-term plan for new jobs, homes, and sustainable growth.
- Core Strategy - this is the lead document of the Rochdale Borough Local Plan. It provides an overview of our objectives for the whole of the borough. All other plans and policies must fit with the developments laid out in the Core Strategy.
- Greater Manchester Joint Waste Development Plan - a plan for new waste management facilities.
- Greater Manchester Joint Minerals Development Plan - identifies new mineral extraction sites and lists current mineral sites that need to be protected from closing down.
- 1996-2016 Local Plan - the Unitary Development Plan from our 1996-2016 Local Plan is still in place until our Allocations Development Plan is adopted.
- Rochdale Borough Unitary Development Plan and Policies - an overview of our objectives for the whole of the borough and written approval to extend this document from the 1999-2016 Local Plan.
- Maps for Rochdale Borough Unitary Development Plan - maps to go with the Rochdale Borough Unitary Development Plan.
Other plans
- Neighbourhood plans - any community in the borough can get together to create a neighbourhood plan which details an idea or a group of ideas for an area. Neighbourhood plans to become part of the local plan if they're adopted. There are currently no Neighbourhood Plans in progress or adopted.
