School Streets

School Streets help create safer, healthier, and more pleasant areas around schools by temporarily restricting vehicle access during drop-off and pick-up times.

During these times in the morning and afternoon, roads outside schools become pedestrian and cycle zones, allowing access only to people walking, cycling, or using a scooter.

Benefits of School Streets

Some key benefits include:

  • Reduced traffic and congestion
  • Cleaner air
  • Improved road safety
  • Encourage sustainable and active travel to school
  • Fewer cars around the school gates

Vehicle restrictions

Non-essential vehicles are not permitted during School Street hours. However, exemptions may be granted for:

  • Residents
  • Blue Badge holders
  • Healthcare workers
  • Emergency services

How you can support School Streets

To support School Streets we encourage parents and carers to:

  • Walk, cycle, or scoot with your children
  • Park a short distance away from school and complete the rest of the journey on foot
