Local families will soon benefit from a new inclusive play area at Lower Place, funded by developer contributions and additional Rochdale South Township funding.
Features will include accessible play towers, swings with inclusive and cradle seats, a horse springer, slide, climbing net and a wheelchair-accessible roundabout, along with sensory and social play panels designed to support imaginative play for younger children.
It will also include colourful wet pour safety surfacing and a new tarmac path linking the existing ramp to the new equipment, making the space easier to access and enjoy.
New bench seating will provide parents, carers and visitors with a place to sit while children play.
Councillor Tricia Ayrton, deputy leader of the council, and portfolio holder for climate change and environment, said:
“This new play area at Lower Place has been designed to give local children of all abilities more opportunities to play, whether on their own or with friends. We hope it will become a bright, welcoming space for families to enjoy for years to come.”
Work has already begun on the new play area, which has been designed by Kompan for children aged 1–12 and is expected to be completed in 5 weeks.
The improvements form part of the council’s ongoing work to create welcoming outdoor spaces where children can be active, have fun and spend time with family and friends across the borough.
