Introduction

The strategic planning function is part of the council’s wider planning service. Strategic planning involves the development of plans, policies and strategies to guide future land use across the borough. When preparing strategic planning documents, the council will carry out a public consultation.

What personal information we collect

How we use personal information

We use your personal information to:

  • Keep you informed regarding the progress of strategic planning documents and notify you of any consultation events
  • Consult you in relation to planning research and evidence gathering, for example, surveys
  • Prepare a consultation statement summarising representations made in respect of strategic planning consultations
Why we use your personal information

We are required by law to consult on planning policy and Local Plan documents at several stages.  This is detailed in legislation and guidance including:

  • Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, as amended
  • The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012, as amended
  • Local Government Act 1972, as amended
  • Equalities Act 2010

We are allowed to process personal and sensitive data for the following reasons under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Articles and the Data Protection Act:

  • Consent
  • Public task
Who we share your personal information with

To comply with its statutory obligations, comments received as part of a Local Plan related consultation cannot be treated as confidential as the council is obliged to make all representations available for public inspection. If you choose to make a representation you will be regarded by the council as having consented to that representation being made available for public inspection. All comments received will also be made available through the internet, along with the name of the person who submitted them. Your address will not generally be available through the internet if you submit your comments electronically through our consultation portal.

Information submitted to support a representation (such as documents or plans) may also be made available through the internet.

Where the council receive representations and supporting documents containing email addresses, telephone numbers or signatures, we will endeavour to remove them. If your postal address is shown on any accompanying documents though then this will be accessible through the internet.

Automated decision about your personal information
This service doesn't make any decisions using computers or programmes that don't involve a human being when using your personal information.
How long we keep your personal information
We will only keep your personal information for as long as the law specifies or where the law does not specify this, for the length of time determined by our business requirements. In line with the council’s record retention schedule such data may be kept whilst the relevant document is current and for a further 6 years.
Transferring personal information beyond the EEA
This service doesn't transfer your information outside the EEA.

We do not routinely share data with any organisation outside the UK, but our website is available across the internet and we communicate with applicants and stakeholders wherever they are.
