Resident Only Parking Policy

The purpose of the Resident Only Parking Policy is to allow officers to deal with requests made for residents permit parking schemes in a fair and consistent manner. It also gives residents and elected members clear guidance on the criteria for considering residents permit parking schemes.

Parking permit schemes provide car owning residents with a reasonable chance of being able to park near to, but not necessarily directly outside, their homes. On many streets some residents own more than one car which places a severe strain on parking availability and generates complaints from other residents. Schemes should generally be considered on an area wide basis so that they do not result in the initial problem being transferred onto the adjacent highway network or into adjacent residential areas.
