1 July - 31 July every year

Try to reduce how much plastic you buy during the month of July. Make a concerted effort to buy loose fruit and vegetables and the plastic-free versions of things you would normally buy. Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.

Net Zero Week

First week of July every year

Raise awareness of the climate change challenge and the best way to do our fair share of tackling emissions to stop global warming.

International Plastic Bag Free Day

3 July every year

Plastic Bag Free Day is a global initiative that aims to eliminate the use of single-use plastic bags in the world. The campaign is part of the broader Break Free From Plastic movement, which brings together an international movement of plastic pollution fighters to build a future free from plastic waste.

Don't Step on a Bee Day

The recent press surrounding the ‘Bee Crisis’ has been hard to ignore. Without the tireless work of our little buzzing friends, over a third of everything we eat would disappear from our tables.

World Nature Conservation Day

World Nature Conservation Day is observed annually on 28 July to remind humankind about the importance of nature and the need to protect it. The day is marked globally to spread awareness about the best practices to protect natural resources.

International Tiger Day

29 July every year

Tigers are on the brink of extinction and International Tiger Day aims to bring attention to this fact and try to halt their decline. Many factors have caused their numbers to fall, including habitat loss, climate change, hunting and poaching and Tiger Day aims to protect and expand their habitats and raise awareness of the need for conservation. Many international organizations are involved in the day, including the World Wildlife Fund, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Smithsonian Institute.

National Marine Week

End of July every year

National Marine Week is The Wildlife Trusts’ nationwide celebration of all things marine. Despite the name, it lasts 15 fun-filled days to allow for the variation in tide times around the country. 

Cycle to Work Day

1 August - 31 August every year

This day began in 2013 and encourages adults to get on their bikes and cycle to work just for one day to promote the environmental and health benefits of cycling. 

National Allotments Week

Second week of August every year

The National Allotments Week theme for 2022 is an acknowledgement of the importance of gardening with nature in mind. An allotment plot is a complex web of plants, micro-organisms, fungi, insects and animals that not only produces food but also supports ecosystem services such as pollination and offers a refuge for wildlife in urban areas.

Organic September

1 September - 30 September

Organic September is a month-long campaign designed to encourage more people to try organic as a way to promote and educate people about organic food & farming practices.

Zero Waste Week

First week of September every year

Zero Waste Week is an annual international awareness campaign in the first full week of September (weekdays only). The event aims to get households, businesses, consumers, organisations, schools and universities to reduce their waste, reuse materials, recycle as much as possible, reduce landfill waste, and bring awareness to the growing environmental problem of waste and pollution.

International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

7 September every year

In 2019, The United Nations General Assembly created this day to stress the importance of clean air and the urgent need for efforts to improve air quality to protect human health.

World Electric Vehicles Day

9 September every year

World Electric Vehicles Day is an annual celebration of all things electric and e-mobility. 

Zero Emissions Day

21 September every year

Zero Emissions Day was established in 2008 in Canada with the idea to give the world a break from fossil fuels and to raise awareness about the harm caused by carbon emissions.

World Car Free Day

22 September every year

World Car Free Day encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day. Some cities and countries have organised events.

Forest Stewardship Council Friday

Last Friday of September every year

The Forest Stewardship Council will be hosting FSC Friday‚ an annual event designed to raise awareness about responsible forest management- the best way to keep using forest products and keep our forests too. FSC is aiming to increase awareness of FSC so that more people choose FSC certified products more of the time.

Recycle Week

September every year

Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling, organised by WRAP under the Recycle Now brand. The aim of the week is to encourage the public to recycle more of the right things, more often from all around the home.

Seed Gathering Season 

End of September every year

The annual Seed Gathering Season inspires everyone to join us to gather seeds, fruits and nuts which can be nurtured to grow the trees of the future. Now in its 21st year, The Tree Council welcomes all volunteer Tree Wardens, member organisations, local communities and families to get involved during the month-long celebrations. The campaign runs from the autumn equinox and is considered to be the first day of autumn.
