Pedestrian crossings

Request a pedestrian crossing

If you think an area should be considered for a crossing, you can apply for a new pedestrian crossing to be installed.

Requests for crossings are reviewed according to criteria set by the Greater Manchester Authorities. An effective crossing should be safe, convenient and located as close as possible to where people want it. It's not always possible to provide a crossing at all locations.

Pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian crossings are installed as the result of traffic and road usage studies which count the number of cars using the road and the number of people trying to cross at a specific point.

We also consider the number of road casualties near the site and local services, such as shops, schools or hospitals, when deciding whether to install a new crossing.
