Visitor centre opening hours - exhibitions and information desk:

  • Winter (1 October to 31 March) Friday to Tuesday 10am-3.30pm.
  • Summer (1 April to 30 September) Friday to Wednesday 10am–3.30pm.​

There's lots to do for you and the family throughout the year, including a regular programme of guided walks, special events, crafts and outdoor activities. Contact the visitor centre for further details. All events meet at Hollingworth Lake visitor centre unless stated otherwise.

The visitor centre is just off Rakewood Road, and has a permanent exhibition of local wildlife and heritage, a gallery of artists work, information desk, small shop, cafe, toilets, and free-to-use mobility scooter hire (booking required).

You can see a variety of water fowl on the lake. A small hide at the south west corner overlooks a natural area where boats and water sports are excluded. The lake is stocked with coarse fish, including bream, carp, tench, roach and perch. There's no close season but there are restrictions on where you can fish. Fishing permits are available from the visitor centre.

Link4Life water activity centre

A regular programme of outdoor activities are organised throughout the year at Hollingworth Lake Activity Centre. There are a range of water activities and lake events for all abilities including sailing, kayaking, canoeing, powerboating and windsurfing as well as outdoor activities including rock climbing and mountain biking.

All of the sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and rowing equipment is available for hire to suitably qualified or experienced individuals or groups. For details of the qualifications or experience required please contact the activity centre.

Rowing boats are available for hire on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from April-September and on weekday afternoons throughout the school summer holidays. Please contact the activity centre about rowing boat availability.
