Our Values - The Rochdale Way

What are the values about?

The Rochdale Way sets out the values that are at the heart of how we approach all of the work we do. To help us all make these values real, a set of underpinning behaviours have been gathered and developed from the active participation of over 300 staff.

The general aspiration is that through the widespread adoption of these values and behaviours Rochdale Borough Council will provide even more customer focussed services and also be a more satisfying place to work.

As an organisation, we are still facing huge changes and it is times like these where values are more important than ever and provide a recognised approach to support everyone through these challenges.

These are values that have been developed by you and your colleagues and that you feel we should all be working to.

The values have now been incorporated into the recruitment process and are found on all job descriptions and person specifications.

These behaviours are linked to the new Personal Development Review process which is an integral part of the Rochdale Way.

Our values and behaviours

These are the values they agreed we need to embed in to our organisation:

  • Focusing on customers - We treat our customers fairly, and listen to their needs. We keep them informed, manage their expectations and deliver the services they need.
  • Valuing our people - We respect others points of view and give them freedom to use their initiative. We encourage all team members to participate fully and we recognise and acknowledge when work is done well. We celebrate and promote the diversity of our workforce.
  • Acting with integrity - We're open and honest with each other and our customers, and respect that people have different opinions and points of view. We take responsibility for our actions and hold our hands up when we make mistakes.
  • Using time and money wisely - We work as a team to plan activities that achieve our goals and we ensure tasks are allocated to the right people. We share good practise with others and continually make every effort to improve the way we work.
  • Working together - We work as a team to create a fun and friendly environment where all staff can work closely with their colleagues and our partners. We work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our customers.
  • Always learning and improving - We're always looking for new ways to improve the services we deliver to our customers. We create an environment which enables learning and encourages and supports challenge. We support people to take risks and learn from our mistakes.
