Corporate Governance, Standards and Ethics at Rochdale
Borough Council
What is governance?
Governance is about how we ensure we're doing the
right things, in the right way, for the right people, in a timely,
inclusive, open and an accountable manner.
It's important to recognise that effective local government
relies upon establishing and maintaining the public's confidence in
both the elected members (councillors) and officers (employees),
and that it determines credibility and confidence in the services
that we provide. Good governance incorporates all our
activities, our priorities and strategic planning.
Overall responsibility for corporate governance rests with the
council and in particular with the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive.

Why do we need governance?
Corporate governance is important because it's crucial to
provide high-quality public services. It's important that our
governance arrangements are transparent to all stakeholders. The
following documents demonstrate key elements of our commitment
to good governance:
What if I want to make a compliment or complain?
If you're unhappy with either a service received, an employee or
a councillor use our complaints procedures to get in touch.
