Our Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs)

The current Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) were elected to start in March 2022.

They'll serve as MYPs until 29 February 2024.

Member of Youth Parliament for Rochdale and Pennines

Henry Leahy is the current MYP for Rochdale and Pennines (Firgrove, Littleborough, Milnrow, Newhey, Smallbridge and Wardle).

Henry's priorities include:

  • Opportunities outside of school.
  • School meals.
  • Mental health curriculum.

Member of Youth Parliament for Heywood and Middleton

Emilia Wakeman is the current MYP for Heywood and Middleton.

Emilia's priorities include:

  • Youth spaces.
  • More opportunities and work experience.
  • Environment.

What do Members of Youth Parliament do?

Members of Youth Parliament have tasks that include:

  • Supporting and speaking on behalf of Rochdale Borough Youth Council and Youth Cabinet.
  • Working alongside Rochdale Borough Children’s Champion to help improve the lives of children and young people in the borough.
  • Attending and chairing meetings for Rochdale Borough Youth Council, which meet every 4 months.
  • Attending and chairing meetings for Rochdale Borough Youth Cabinet, which meets every week.
  • Participating in Youthforia – a regional youth forum for the North West.
  • Having enthusiasm, energy and interest in the rights of children and young people. They'll work to get this message to all children and young people of the borough of Rochdale.
