Taxi and minicab licences

You can submit applications online for: 

• Applying for or renewing your vehicle licence
• Changing a vehicle licence to a new vehicle
• Changing the owner of a licensed vehicle
• First Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver's licence
• Private Hire business operator licence
• Renewing your Private Hire, Hackney Carriage or combined driver's licence
• Report damage to your Hackney Carriage or Private Hire vehicle

To avoid charges, please check that you are applying for the correct licence and consider any advice given before submitting your application.

The following charges apply if you request a refund:

• If you submit the wrong application form: a £10 administration fee will be deducted from your refund.
• If your application is correct but you later decide to request a refund while it is being processed: a £30 administration fee will be deducted from your refund.
• If your application is going to a Licensing Panel Hearing: based on the council’s policy on convictions and other relevant information, you can still choose to continue with your application. However, if you do, a £60 administration fee will be taken if your application is refused or if you later request a refund.

Once you submit your application, you'll receive a reference number.

If your application is incomplete or missing any required documents, we will email you to let you know and arrange a refund within 5 working days.

If you do not receive a rejection email or refund, you can assume that we have received your application and it will be processed in due course.
