A beautiful, exciting illuminated walk featuring mesmerising live performances, magical sound, light and fire installations showing what it could be like to live in a world that is biodiverse, carbon neutral, beautiful and sustainable.
Expect the unexpected as you wander through the trees, spotting some of the wonderful wildlife that comes out at night, and listen to the voices of Rochdale’s children, whose hopes for the natural world are woven into the soundtrack.
Booking is essential, but tickets are free. You’ll be able to choose from available time slots each day.
This is a family friendly outdoor environmental arts event, raising awareness of the climate crisis while encouraging visitors to think positively about what they can do to make the world a better place for future generations. There will be something to captivate all ages with a kaleidoscope of colour featuring fire gardens, flowers, moths, lanterns, woodland animals and more.
Rochdale Borough Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and committed to be a carbon neutral borough by 2038. Earlier in 2024 we staged workshops with schools, community groups, artists and other local people, connecting with nature and increasing engagement in the climate change agenda as well as generating eye-catching attractions that will form part of the trail.
Wild Wanders is created by international outdoor arts organisation Walk The Plank in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council. It is funded by Arts Council England and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
Conceived by Liz Pugh at Walk the Plank. Sound design by Caro Churchill, featuring flora and fauna by Eye of the Newt, Jess Rost, Liverpool Lantern Company, fire installations by Walk the Plank. Projection by Illuminos.
