About this event

Monday–Saturday, 4–9 March 2024. Part of the Rochdale Borough Festival of Ideas.

This idea, homegrown in Rochdale borough, has been commissioned from the recent ideas callout in partnership with The Culture Co-op.

While the Manchester music scene is known the world over, did you know Rochdale has played a major role in creating the magic?

Rockdale Wall of Sound celebrates a borough with a rich music heritage, bringing to life the important role it played. Home to a string of small and innovative music studios from the late ‘60’s onwards, the borough played a part in the development of new and innovative music ideas, leading to the exciting development of Voltalab Sound Studios who carry on the legacy in Rochdale today.

The installation features giant headphones, inviting you to move through and listen to Rochdale’s rich music history. An accompanying mural will bring to life the story of the music made, the studios and band sounds.

Recorded audio description for this artwork will be available throughout the installation period. Simply scan the QR code next to the installation. You can also listen to the audio description here.

All entrances to the shopping centre are wheelchair accessible.

There is accessible parking on every level of the centre. Level 3 is solely designated for accessible parking. However, please note that there is a charge for parking except on Sundays.
