Special educational needs
Assessment
Before we reach a decision on whether a child needs special
educational provision, a team of professionals from different
services do a careful assessment. We think parents
are vital members of the team.
We take into account the child's educational, medical,
nursing, social and other needs. We carefully co-ordinate the
information so we can make a judgement as to whether
a statement of special educational needs should be issued. We set
up a moderating group which includes headteachers, educational
psychologist and representatives from health and social services to
help us decide whether to issue a statement of special
educational needs.
We monitor and review the progress of all children with
statements of
SEN
every year.
Our staff work closely with parents, and each family where a
child is being assessed has a named officer to contact for
advice.
Most special needs are met within mainstream schools.
