Sacred Heart RC Primary and Nursery Class
The School opened in September 1961 comprising
of eight classrooms, hall (dining and gymnasium), library, medical
room, changing rooms, showers and playing fields.
In December, 1993 Bishop Kelly officially
opened a new 30 place nursery. During 1995 the Diocese
completed the refurbishment of the school, with the provision of
new key stage one and two areas. In June 1999 the DfEE funded
a new classroom in Key Stage One.
In September 2004 further modifications were
made to the F/KS1 classrooms. The central heating system was
replaced throughout the school. In September 2005 a brand new
kitchen was installed.
Extended Services
Sacred Heart have achieved Healthy School Status, an Eco-School
Award and provide, or signpost to, the following extended
services:
- School opening hours – until 4.40pm term time only
- Signposted to Newbold After School Club at Newbold Children’s
Centre
- After school activities include football, netball, drama, maths
and French club
- Lunchtime activities include Drama Club and there are
activities organised in the playground by Playground Friends.
School Council are planning a mini Olympics to be held at
lunchtime
- Holiday programme – signpost to the activities at Springhill
High. The school is promoting the Dads n Lads Club that Springhill
is running at weekends
- Parents United run by school every Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday morning and after school on a Thursday. Parents come into
school and spend 10 mins with their child and then have a
drink/chat with other parents, use the laptop and take part in
activities including card making, cooking, literacy, trips and
parenting courses
- Staff been on Rainbows training course in order to provide
support and counseling to pupils who have/are experiencing
difficulties as a result of bereavement/loss/ change in
circumstances
- School Nurse based at Kingsway available when needed
