The Planning Portal also offers a wide range of services and guidance on the planning system, including guidance for small business to the procedures of the planning system and how to apply for planning permission.

Submitting a full application

If you are unsure of how to complete an application for planning permission you should have pre-application discussions to make sure you provide all the information needed (refer checklist) to process your application from the start. Otherwise your application will be delayed. Please include copies of any pre-application correspondence or notes.

You can make a planning application online using The Planning Portal.

Submit by post or in person

Please note: due to a review of procedures, we will now accept planning applications where only one copy of the application form, plans and other necessary supporting information are provided.

Your completed application form should be accompanied by the checklist below. Any application which does not provide all the required details may not be validated.

Application form, checklist and guidance notes

For any application involving more than 100 pages of written documentation you are now legally required from 6 April 2010 to include a summary report of the whole scheme of a maximum of 20 pages.

For all Major developments, a full copy of the application on CD would be helpful. This will allow us to provide electronic copies of the application to all relevant consultees at the earliest opportunity and reduce the possibility of delays in the application process.
