Hare Hill Park is a traditional Victorian Park housing the town’s library with many of its original features offering a wide range of leisure facilities.

It is located at the gateway to the Pennines serving the community of Littleborough, and is regarded as the “Jewel in the Pennines crown.”

The friends group have been instrumental in returning the park to its former glory and have attracted over £250,000 for its restoration.

Many original heritage features have been restored, it is well maintained and clean, offering recreational opportunities to a wide range of groups and individuals making it once again a safe and inviting place which is used and valued by the local community.

  • 2 bowling greens,
  • Historical features including a listed water wheel and the bandstand
  • Town library and information centre (formerly Hare Hill House), where people can make general enquiries and access councilservices.

History

The park was created in the Victorian era along with the building of Hare Hill house by a prominent local family, and sits snugly in the very heart of the Littleborough community.

The family beneficiaries sold the park and house to the Littleborough UDC in 1900. Hare Hill Park is now owned and managed by the council.

Features

The park benefits from a LEAP standard play area, two bowling greens and heritage features.

There are ambitious plans restore the water wheel and new facilities for young people, such as a skateboard park and new toddlers play area have now been created.

The park has a well-established Friends Group with a track record of attracting external funding and promoting the park as a venue for social interaction and a passion for the park to be an excellent and well-utilized community resource.
