Licence - highway projection
Licence summary
A Licence from us (Highways and Engineering Service)
is required to allow the construction of a building which
extends or overhangs part of the highway. Applications must be in
the form prescribed by us.
Eligibility criteria
You must be a fit and proper person.
Regulation summary
Highways Act 1980 – Part IX – Section 177. “Restriction on
construction of buildings over highways”.

Each application will be evaluated on an individual basis.

application before it can be granted. If you have not
heard within a reasonable period, please contact us.
Apply for a licence
Telephone or email us to ask for an application form. You should
be able to apply for the following licence online in early
2010:
Granted application
An annual fee will be charged to the owner of the building for
administering the Licence. The fee/charge amount is available from
the Local Authority (Highways & Engineering Service).

Consumer complaint
We would advise that in the event of a complaint that you
contact us (Highways & Engineering Service) in the first
instance.
Other redress
Any queries, comments, observations etc. regarding an
application, should be forwarded (in writing) to us (Highways &
Engineering Service) in the first instance.
