Matthew Moss rebuild takes shape
28 June 2011
Pupils at Matthew Moss High School in Rochdale have been getting
involved in construction projects as two critical phases of the
Building Schools for the Future schemes reach completion.
The “hex” block at Matthew Moss, once a gym for trampolining,
has been transformed into a vibrant Learning Resource Centre with a
new mezzanine level which houses an information communications
technology (ICT) suite and a conference room. This new space will
support the school to deliver first class teaching and learning by
providing an environment which can be used flexibly to adapt to the
school's curriculum.
Throughout the project inspiredspaces and Carillion have worked
closely with staff and students to engage them in the build
process. This has included using the new build within the school
curriculum to enhance learning opportunities.
At Matthew Moss High School one of the project students have
been involved in was to design a landscape area in their own school
grounds. With assistance from the inspiredspaces design team the
student council has visited various areas of Manchester to view and
evaluate different urban landscapes and find inspiration and ideas
for their own school landscaping project.
Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools
and Families, said:
“The completion of these two phases at Matthew Moss with the new
ICT facilities will transform the learning experience for pupils at
the school. I am also pleased that students are getting involved in
the design of their new school and look forward to seeing the new
landscaped areas that they have created.”
