Police appeal to parents
27
January 2012
Parents of young people are being asked to
help reduce anti-social behaviour.
Large groups of youths are currently
congregating in and around Denehurst Park, Rochdale on Friday and
Saturday evenings where they are drinking alcohol and causing a
nuisance to residents.
To combat this, police and Rochdale Borough
Council are reminding parents to be mindful of where their children
are, and not to give them too much money, as it is often spent on
alcohol which fuels anti-social behaviour.
Inspector Umer Khan, of the Rochdale North
Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are adopting a multi-agency
approach to tackle this, with police and our council partners.
“Sometimes these problems are caused, at
least in part, by lack of parental responsibility, and we just want
to remind parents that the money they give their children is often
spent on alcohol. They also ought to have some idea of where
their children are going and what they are planning on doing.”
Councillor Martin Burke, Cabinet Member for
Internal and Environmental Services, said:
“Parents have a responsibility to their
communities to ensure that their children are acting in a
responsible manner. Anti-social behaviour is unacceptable
regardless of the age of the offenders and we are committed to
working with our partners to tackle the issue.”
