Work is now underway on the £10 million redevelopment of Holy
Family RC & CE College in Heywood.
Holy Family is the third Heywood school to receive funding as
part of Rochdale’s Building Schools for the Future programme
following hot on the heels of Siddal Moor Sports College, which is
now complete, and the brand new Darnhill Study Centre which started
in October.
The redevelopment of the site will require the existing three
storey teaching block and administration wing to be demolished with
the remaining buildings remodelled and refurbished in line with the
school’s requirements. New facilities being built at the secondary
school will include:
- A detached Sports Hall with auxiliary accommodation
- A two storey teaching wing extension
- An extension to increase the food technology provision
The investment programme is being delivered by the council’s
local education partnership, inspiredspaces Rochdale, and its main
building contractor, Carillion.
Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools
and Families at Rochdale Borough Council, said:
"The ambitious rebuilding plans at Holy Family will transform
the school with improved ICT services enabling pupils and staff to
access learning with ease using the latest technology. The outside
space will also feature new pedestrian and cycle routes with a
secure cycle area for staff and pupils.”
Claire Butler, General Manager of inspiredspaces, said
“It is a privilege to be involved in delivering such an
unprecedented level of investment in education across the borough.
We are looking forward to continuing to work with the school
throughout the build period to deliver construction-related
curriculum projects, work experience and careers advice for the
students.”
The school will be completed in October 2013.
