A right royal knees up
Rochdale borough is geared up for a real regal shindig with
events planned across the borough to mark the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee.
Rochdale
Saturday 2 June
Arty Party
Let the kids create their very own Jubilee bunting, hats and
flags at this free event at the Touchstones art and cultural
centre. All materials will be provided and the sessions (for 5-12
year-olds) will start at 10.30am or 1.30pm.Book your place now on

Monday 4 June
Tea Party
Traditional bunting will adorn the town centre's memorial
gardens as the Salvation Army hosts a celebration in the
sunken gardens, complete with traditional brass band,
children's games, face painting and a tea party. The event is
free and runs from 12 noon to 4pm.
Beacon
The beacon will be lit on top of the Municipal Offices in Smith
Street at 10.15pm. it will light up the sky for an hour
before being put out.
Heywood
Sunday 3 June
Queens Park Fun Day
Queen's Park will be making the most of its royal
connections with a fun day from 11am to 4pm. The day will start
with a treasure hunt before local indie band Moose Patrol take to
the stage at 12.30pm. A royal teddy bears picnic at
2.15pm will give youngsters the chance to bring some
food and their favourite teddy, with prizes being awarded for
the best dressed, the scruffiest, the most royal looking and the
oldest bears.
Indoor 50s themed street party at the Heywood Civic
Centre
Continue the fun after the sun goes down with an indoor 1950s
themed street party at the Heywood Civic Centre from 7.30pm. The
night features a Buddy Holly tribute act, Last Night fo the Proms
style singalong, brass band and songs from the 1950s
musicals. Tickets, which include a potato pie supper, are
available from the Heywood Civic Centre or by phoning John Corney
on 07976 059 550.
Monday 4 June
Beacon and fireworks display
Heywood's beacon will be lit in Queen's Park at 10.15pm on
Monday 4 June. A fireworks display will accompany the lighting
of the beacon.
Middleton
Saturday 2 June
Church concert
A Jubilee themed concert will be taking place at Middleton
Parish Church at 7.30pm.
Sunday 3 June
Celebration church service
A celebration service marking the 600th anniversary of the
church and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee will take place at 7pm.
Monday 4 June
Medieval Pageant
The medieval themed procession will re-enact the life of
Cardinal Langley. The procession will start at Long
Street Methodist Church at 11am and will travel through Jubilee
Park to the Parish Church.
Bowlee car boot
The tradional car boot will run from 7am to 1pm for those who
fancy a shopping spree. Who knows? You might pick up something
dating back to 1952!
Beacon and fireworks display
The beacon will be lit at Bowlee park at 10.15pm. A cracking
red, white and blue themed fireworks display will start at
10.30pm. A further beacon will be lit on grounds in front of
the Grade I listed St Leonard's Church at the same time.
Pennines
Sunday 3 June
Hollingworth Lake Big Water Festival
Those who can't quite make the Thames Pageant to mark the
Queen's Diamond Jubilee can see it recreated at home as the
Hollingworth Lake makes a splash. the day will offer visitors the
chance to try all sorts of water sports for just £2 a go as
well as a series of free activities like mountain biking, climbing
and more. No need to book - just bring yourself and practical
clothes and shoes.

Beacon
The traditional beacon will be lit in Milnrow Memorial Park
at 10.15pm.
Tuesday 5 June
Ju -bee -lee family picnic
Grab the kids and head over to the Hollingworth Lake
Vistors Centre with your picnic for a bee-rilliant afternoon. Find
out all about there is to know about our buzzing friends,
help to plant new heathers and have a your of the sensory
garden. This free event runs from 2 to 4pm and there's no need to
book.
And remember
There's still time to arrange your very own street party, but
you need permission and a small fee is applied.
