New photos to show how the new Rochdale Register Office will look have been released.
Work is well under way to move the borough's Register Office to a new home at Number One Riverside in Rochdale town centre, as the town hall closes for major restoration.
The office, being created by local contractor H Bell & Sons Ltd, will be based in large, newly refurbished private rooms on the ground floor of the flagship building by the River Roch and will include a large stylish ceremony room which will hold marriage and civil partnership ceremonies from January 2021.
'Work is progressing well'
New computer-generated images show the ceremony room - the Red Rose Suite, which will be decorated with contemporary lighting features and furnishings. It will accommodate up to 70 guests and be fully licensed for marriages and civil ceremonies.
Councillor Janet Emsley, cabinet member for a safer and inclusive community at Rochdale Borough Council said:
"I'm pleased to say work is progressing well and will be completed by the end of the year. As you can see, it promises an extremely impressive finish, creating a really elegant and stylish ceremony space in a riverside location."
The new venue will also include access to a roof top terrace with views across the Pennines – for photographs and celebratory drinks with friends and family. There will also be a dedicated wedding room with full length mirror, where those about to walk down the aisle can steal a few quiet moments in private before making their entrance.
Other Register Office services will be available at Number One Riverside from January 2021 including registering births, deaths and other civil ceremonies.
Rochdale Town Hall is due to re-open after a major refurbishment in 2023, when it will continue to host weddings and civil ceremonies.
