On your marks – Williams BMW Rochdale Fun Run returns

20 June 2018

Runners getting ready for the fun run.

Entry for Williams BMW Rochdale Fun Run opens in July 2018.

Once the half marathon and 10K runners have set off, the fun runners will be under starter's orders. After a great response in 2017, the event retains the same route, setting out from Rochdale Town Hall and up into the beautiful Broadfield Park, taking a very scenic route around the award winning historic grounds. There is a steep challenging climb up past the John Bright statue before entering the park. While the rest of the course climbs gradually, once you reach the bandstand it's all downhill to The Esplanade for the return to the finish line at the town hall!

The fun run starts at 10.25am on Sunday, 7 October 2018. Entry is £6.80 and all finishers will receive a Williams BMW Rochdale Fun Run medal. The event is suitable for children, but entrants must be at least 4 years old on the day of the run.

'A great local event in the heart of the community'

Councillor Janet Emsley, our cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture, who has taken part in the event for charity for the last 3 years, said:

"The fun run is something for all the family to enjoy. Last year we had over 100 runners and it's going to be even bigger this year. The stunning route around Broadfield Park has some great views, gradients and plenty of flat sections so it's perfect for runners as well as spectators. The Fun Run is something that almost everyone can take part in and we are hoping it will inspire more people to be active in a fun and family friendly environment."

Springhill Hospice is the official charity for the fun run, so you are welcome to run for the hospice or another charity of your choice if you so wish.

2 runners with their medals.

Nick Barton from Rochdale Harriers, said:

"The fun run certainly lived up to its name last year and we've had a lot of interest in it already, way before places go on sale so we're expecting numbers to be well up this year. Broadfield Park is a real gem in a tranquil setting, yet just behind the town hall, traffic free and good underfoot."

John Connor, Head of Business at Williams BMW Rochdale, said: "We're proud to be supporting the event again this year, and the fun run is a great local event in the heart of the community where many of our customers and employees work and live. All 3 runs raise valuable funds for good causes too and we look forward to seeing even more people taking part this year."

Entry for the Williams BMW Fun Run opens on Monday, 2 July 2018.

The event is organised by Middleton Harriers, Rochdale Harriers and Rochdale Triathlon Club, supported by us.
