If you need help with homework , tracing your family history, writing a business plan or preparing for your driving theory test we subscribe to a wide range of resources to help you.

Most of these will require you to log in with your library barcode to get into the members' area.

The National Archives

The National Archives is the UK government's official archive, containing over 1,000 years of history including over 270,000,000 documents that are available on the UK Government Archive. It includes:

  • Guides, catalogues and indexes - whether you are looking for a person, a place or a particular subject.
  • Lesson plans and workshops for teachers and students.
  • Online exhibitions on historical themes.
  • A museum of national treasures.
  • Podcasts about news and popular topics.
  • Advice on how to use the National Archives in Kew.

Driving theory test

  • Theory Test Pro - a highly realistic online simulation of the UK's driving theory test.


  • Life in Britain - an online course to help people preparing for the Citizenship Test.

How to borrow a British Standard

British Standards can be obtained through our Inter Library Loan scheme. There's a £3.60 non-refundable charge per standard for this service.

If you wish to borrow a British Standard you can place a request. (You'll need to sign in using your library membership details)

You'll need to tell us:

  • The British Standard title and the Standard number.
  • Your name.
  • Library membership number.
  • Contact number.

You can search the British Standards website for titles and details.

As we'll be applying for the Standard from the British Library, we'll be subject to their specific loan rules. Unfortunately we're unable to renew the loan beyond the date set by them.
