Library charges

Fines for overdue books and audio items

Per item per day (plus the cost of postage if a notice has been sent)

  • Adults - 15p
  • Children and young people under 17 - no charge
  • People who are blind or severely visually-impaired - no charge

The maximum fine per item is £10. 

Avoid fines for overdue items by getting reminders when they are due back. If you cannot get to the library on time you can usually renew your loans and avoid fines.

How to renew your loans

Book reservations

Per item (non refundable)

  • There are no charges for items in stock or on order
  • Requests for books which are not in stock or which are supplied  via the regional library service  - £3.50
  • Requests for photocopies of periodical articles obtained through the regional library service - £3.50 

Audio-visual loans

  • Audio books - £1
  • Learn A Language Audio - £1
  • Daily hire charge per overdue audiobooks item per day  - 10p
  • Playaways: non-return of rechargeable battery - £2

Loans of playsets and music sets

  • Per set (non-refundable): £8  

Replacement membership cards


(Computerised libraries only)
  • Adult - £2
  • Children under 17 years - £1

Prints and photocopying (cost per single-sided copy)

  • Black and white print A4 and B4 size paper  - 10p
  • Black and white print A3 size paper - 20p
  • Colour print A4 and B4 size paper  - 30p
  • Colour print A3 size paper - 70p
  • Photocopies of articles from journals and newspapers -  £1
Microprints
  • Per print - 70p
Computer Print Outs
  • Black and white  - 10p
  • Colour - 30p
  • Ancestry.com print-outs - 70p

House of Images

Local history prints at Heywood and Middleton libraries Per A4 print on photographic paper - £1

  • Per A4 print on standard paper - 20p
  • Per 6" x 4"image plus text print on standard paper - 20p

Fax

  • First sheet - £1.50
  • Each subsequent sheet - 50p
  • Incoming faxes (per fax) - £1 

Room hire charges

Bookings within opening hours (Heywood, Central Lending, Darnhill):

  • FREE - Voluntary Groups / Community Groups / Library Groups / Members + MPs surgeries
  • £18 per hour – private sector organisations / profit making groups / other Council Departments
  • £1 per unit – tea/coffee/biscuits – delivered via flask and empty cups

Booking outside of opening hours:

  • £25 per hour – for all bookings
