A Summer Of Fun
6 August 2010
If you see any of the
staff in our libraries looking a bit dazed and confused, please be
gentle with them: we are in the middle of a whirlwind of
activity!
We are at the halfway point with Guy de Paul's magic shows. We
are really pleased with the results so far, with 415 people coming
along to the first five events!
Just over a thousand children have already joined in with the
Summer Reading Game. If your children have not started yet, it is
not too late to start!
Each library is also having a different space-themed craft
activitiy for children to enjoy. Not to mention two exciting
children's competitions!
For the grown-ups we have been providing author visits; healthy
living events; and recycled teenagers sessions and Kym Marsh
came to launch our Feature Film DVD Collection.
We are changing the layout of the Wheatsheaf Library so that the
Reference Library becomes an area specifically dedicated to
careers, learning and business information. This involves creating
new collections in these subject areas, including both lending
materials and books to be used within the library. If you come in
to the library at the moment you will see that we are in the middle
of clearing shelves and shuffling books around. You may also have
noticed that one corner of the library has been set up to house the
new Maskew Collection and supporting features.
We have also started providing drop-in computer tutorial
sessions, using the MyGuide website. More news about that soon!
Other than that, it is business as usual really! Two thousand
new members joined our libraries in July and nearly
90,000 items were loaned out. July was the busiest-ever month
for online reservations — 1,013, the first time we have ever gone
over the 1,000 mark!
