National Bookstart Week 2013: Fairy Tales
Celebrate National Bookstart week with some fairy tale themed
events.
We'll be holding Bookstart Bear Club sessions all
week at Central, Heywood, Middleton, Darnhill,
Balderstone and Smallbridge libraries. All children who
attend the sessions receive a free book.

National Bookstart Week 2013: Picnic in
the park
Join an afternoon of fun, story and rhyme times, creative
activities and games.
Huff and puff on the model railway train and climb (not up the
beanstalk) on board the Playbus for more fun.
Children can dress as their favourite fairytale character and
bring a teddy bear for a Teddy Bears picnic (please bring your own
picnic).

Summer Reading Challenge ‘Creepy House’
This year’s theme is ‘Creepy House’ and to complete the
challenge you must read 6 spine-tingling library
books that are available in all our libraries. All
children aged 4 to 11 can take part. It’s fun and it’s free – you
just need to be a library member. Join the

Tom Palmer's Rugby League World Cup Reading
Game The Rugby League World Cup Reading Game is a
quiz about great rugby reading (in newspapers, online, magazines
and books) and also a goal kicking competition.
It's most suitable for children aged 7 to 12 with an accompanying
adult.
Families are challenged to answer easy questions about sport, then
to take kicks at Tom's portable rugby posts. The winning family
gets a trophy.

Literature and Ideas Festival 2013
Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival 2013 is
a festival with a difference. It will provide an opportunity
for the people of Rochdale to share or discover a passion for
reading, writing and thinking. The festival will include unique and
inspiring events held over 3 days at the brand new Rochdale Central
Library and other venues in the community. There will be a
different arts theme for each day too!
Details of the full programme are still a
closely guarded secret, but will be announced fully in July
2013.
