Thank you Heywood for recycling!
13 October 2008
Rochdale Borough Council is saying a big ‘thank you’ to the
people of Heywood having made recycling a success in the
town..jpg)
Since alternate weekly collections were introduced in the area
in June 2007, recycling rates have gone up from 8.6 per cent to a
fantastic 34.4 per cent – and it’s all thanks to Heywood’s
residents for making it happen.
Boroughwide, increased recycling rates have made us the most
improved local authority for recycling in the whole of Greater
Manchester.
Councillor Wera Hobhouse, cabinet member for environment and
sustainability, enthused: “The residents of Heywood should be
extremely proud of their recycling achievements. To make such a
huge leap to recycling more than 34 per cent of household waste is
just incredible.
“Keep up the good work Heywood – you’re doing brilliantly!”
Recycling glass and plastic bottles, tins, paper and cardboard
is hugely important, because it heavily conserves natural
resources, saves energy, protects the environment, and drastically
reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill.
Dennis Pennill, our Waste Services Manger, adds: ”The people of
Heywood are very supportive of recycling and clearly understand
it’s significance. The more we can recycle the better for everyone,
so keep up the good work!”
