Emergency closures
Circumstances may arise from time to time when it may be
necessary to temporarily close a school. The headteacher, usually
in consultation with the chair of governors, has the responsibility
for making this decision and it should only be considered as a last
resort once all other options have been looked into.
Each school will get in contact with parents and pupils using
one or more of the following methods to make sure that as many
people as possible get the message. Methods that specific schools
use should be in their schools prospectus/parents handbook and
staff handbook.
- Rochdale Borough Council website
- School’s website
- School answer phone
- Local radio stations
- Notice on school gate/door/ window
- Phoning, texting or emailing parents
Teacher days
Each year, schools have five inset days during term-time set
aside for staff training. These are agreed a year in advance as
part of the school holiday pattern and should be advertised to
parents by the school.
Schools can also move two days of the local authority
recommended holiday pattern e.g. for polling days or religious
festivals. These again, would be agreed by governing bodies a year
in advance and would be advertised to parents as part of the school
calendar.
