Library prize for young readers
11 July 2008
In the 2008 summer holidays we are encouraging children
under 4 to use their local library. Collect a ‘Bookstart Book
Crawl’ sticker each time you visit and on your fourth visit you’ll
be awarded a certificate, designed by a children’s book
illustrator. ‘Bookstart Book Crawl’ supports the National Year of
Reading’s Library membership scheme.
Librarian Freda Fletcher said it is important to enjoy books
from a young age:
“The new certificates are sure to be very popular with babies
and young children and will become very special keep sakes of their
first years as library members," she said.
To start collecting Bookstart Book Crawl certificates, just
visit your local library.
You can also take your baby or toddler to one of a host of
‘Rhythm and Rhyme’ sessions being held across the borough in the
coming weeks:
- Tuesday 22 July from 10.30am – Smithybridge Library
- Thursday 24 July from 10am – Spotland Library
- Thursday 24 July from 2pm – Wheatsheaf Library
- Monday 28 July from 10.30am – Middleton Library
- Monday 28 July from 2.30pm – Alkrington Library
- Monday 28 July from 3.30pm – Belfield Library
- Tuesday 29 July from 10.30am - Norden Library
- Tuesday 29 July from 2.15pm – Wardle Library
- Thursday 31 July from 2.30pm – Langley Library
- Friday 1 August from 10.30am – Littleborough Library
It will encourage people to read in businesses, homes, and
communities around the country, providing new opportunities to read
and helping people to access help and support through schools and
libraries.
