Be Safe4summer not troublesome
3 July 2009
We have
launched a new campaign aimed at keeping young people safe and out
of trouble this summer.
Safe4summer.com is a new website
which young people and parents can use to find out what activities
are available in their area.
On offer in the borough - dancing, sport and leisure, art,
drama, swimming and much more...
In partnership with Greater Manchester Police, Fire and
Rescue Service and GMPTE, we want to make sure that young
people don’t have any excuse to be bored because there is always
something to do in the borough.
Ann Tipton, Head of Service for Learners and Young People at
Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The Safe4summer website aims to
keep young people entertained and active this summer. There are
plenty of activities and events, such as youth clubs and projects
provided by the youth service.
"Whether you like dancing, sport, art or drama there is
something for everyone, so get online and get involved in something
productive.”
Keep active and out of trouble
The campaign also aims to get youngsters to think about the
consequences of acting carelessly by hanging around the streets,
causing a nuisance and being loud, which means they are probably
getting on people’s nerves. The website promotes lots of ways that
young people can enjoy themselves without bothering the wider
community.
Parents! Do you know what your kids get up to?
We are appealing to parents and guardians to know where their
children are and what they are getting up to. Recognising that this
is a difficult task, the Safe4summer website is designed to make a
parent’s life easier, by giving them a quick and easy way to find
activities for their children and keep them out of trouble.
Chief Superintendent John Rush from Greater Manchester Police
said: “safe4summer is a great way to keep children off the streets
and stop them causing a nuisance.
“The campaign aims to target anti-social behaviour by
encouraging parents and children to work together with local
authorities to ensure they have an enjoyable safe summer.”
Councillor Ted Flynn, Cabinet Member for Community Safety,
added: “The website is a great idea, it is an easy way for parents
and young people to find out what’s on in the borough. With so much
on offer, there is no excuse to be bored and certainly no excuse to
be a nuisance to your neighbours or the community in general this
summer."
Visit safe4summer.com to find out what
activities are available for young people in your area.
Remember swimming is free for all under 16s at public
